BEGINING OF THE YEAR 2024 STAFF RETREAT

SLOW FOOD UGANDA STAFF RETREAT WAS HELD FOR THE TEAM TO REFRESH, REFLECT ON 2023

AND PLAN FOR 2024.

From Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th January 2024, Slow Food Uganda conducted a staff retreat at
BN Private Beach in Jinja District. The three-day retreat served as a pivotal platform that brought
together staff members with the objective of stimulating their capacity in communication and
fostering a culture of collaborative learning, sharing, discussion, and team building.
The retreat was designed to provide an immersive experience that went beyond the conventional
work environment, aiming to cultivate an environment where enhanced productivity and
effectiveness could be achieved through strengthened team dynamics and enriched skill sets. The
comprehensive agenda featured diverse activities that produced tangible outputs and contributed to
the professional and personal development of the participants.
Throughout the retreat, an array of engaging learning sessions, team building exercises, and
housekeeping activities were conducted, complemented by refreshing early morning physical
workouts and team building games. The agenda comprised structured planning activities,
encompassing the review of the 2023 Annual impact and achievements, discussions and projections
for 2024, deliberations on the 2024 Work Plan, team structure, and performance targets.
Notably, the retreat transcended mere professional development, providing a platform for members
to forge connections, exchange ideas, and collectively strategize, fostering a sense of unity and
shared purpose. By encouraging active participation and open dialogue, the retreat facilitated the
development of shared perspectives, thus establishing an ideal foundation for enhanced team
interaction, heightened morale, amplified creativity, strengthened trust and unity, improved
collaboration, strengthened focus, and enhanced communication skills, all of which contribute to a
reinforced organizational culture.
In essence, the Slow Food Uganda staff retreat was significant to the organization's commitment to
nurturing a cohesive, empowered, and strong team, that will drive positive change within the
organization and the communities it serves. The impact of this retreat not only extends to the
professional field but also resounds in the personal growth and collective effectiveness of the
individuals involved, ultimately reinforcing Slow Food Uganda's capacity to effect meaningful and
sustainable change in the food system.
