SLOW FOOD UGANDA JOINED PELUM UGANDA THEMATIC COMMITTEES OF ADVOCACY AND AGROECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABLE NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Slow Food Uganda recently joined the Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Uganda Thematic Committees of Policy and Advocacy as well as Agroecology and Sustainable Natural Resources Management. This signifies Slow Food Uganda’s commitment to actively participate in these thematic committees and contribute technical support in the areas of Advocacy and Agroecology and Sustainable Natural Resources Management.

During the orientation meeting held on 25th January 2024, insights into the objectives, expectations, and collaborative efforts of the thematic committees were provided. Notably, two staff members, John Kiwagalo and Edward Mukiibi, will represent Slow Food Uganda on the Policy and Advocacy as well as Agroecology and Sustainable Natural Resources Management thematic committees, respectively. During the meeting, John Kiwagalo was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Policy and Advocacy Thematic Committee and Edward Mukiibi is an advisor of the Agroecology and Sustainable Natural Resources Management. These committees serve as key platforms for PELUM Member Organizations to effectively deliberate on key thematic areas, fostering collaboration and impactful initiatives.

Thematic Committees are one of PELUM Uganda’s key working approaches. The committees provide space for likeminded PELUM Member Organisations (MOs) to effectively deliberate on key thematic areas of PELUM Uganda. Since 2012, PELUM Uganda has been working through 3 thematic committees including the Sustainable Farming Systems committee (SFS), Agricultural Market Development (AMD) committee and the Advocacy committee. These have been instrumental in departmental planning, providing technical support and advice in project implementation, representing PELUM Uganda at thematic events, developing innovative models as well as strategic engagements

Slow Food Uganda is member organization of PELUM Uganda, a network organization of over 70 civil society organizations in Uganda working in the area of participatory ecological land use management. PELUM Uganda is working to improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers and the sustainability of rural communities, through the fostering of ecological land use management.
