The Slow Food Coffee Festival is an event celebration dedicated to promoting Uganda’s rich coffee culture and biodiversity. This annual event serves as a platform for coffee producers, roasters, transporters, consumers and other actors to come together and explore the coffee value chain in Uganda. The Coffee festival is organized to raise awareness about the importance of local coffee consumption in Uganda, where a significant portion of coffee is exported. Through educating Ugandans about their traditional coffee varieties, the festival encourages appreciation for local coffee and the benefits of drinking good, clean, and fair coffee. The event features a variety of activities, including: Coffee Tastings where attendees have the opportunity to sample different coffee varieties, including Uganda’s native Arabica and Kisansa coffees. This experience allows participants to discover the unique flavors and aromas that characterize Ugandan coffee; Workshops and Discussions where farmers, baristas, and coffee experts share their knowledge about sustainable coffee practices, agroforestry, and the economic significance of coffee in local communities. These sessions aim to empower small-scale producers and promote environmentally friendly practices; Producer exhibitions where local farmers showcase their coffee products. This not only supports small-scale producers but also fosters direct connections between consumers and the people behind their coffee; and cultural celebrations where the event celebrates the cultural heritage associated with coffee in Uganda, highlighting its role in local traditions and community life.
